  • The long journey

The idea was only discussed by the top police leadership and it was passed from the director in the form of a letter to the home secretary in the year 1994. The idea was supported by the government officials but it still took 25 years for the best result. The journey from the idea of discussing to the building of the full structure is full of challenges.

  • The idea

There are many police martyrs in various places like Ladakh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal but they are giving gratitude to the small number of persons. There was a keen desire to make the martyrs in Delhi so that people should gain knowledge about how many police officers and armed forces have been died on their duty to protect India. This is also showing the unity of the officers as they are from different areas and follow different traditions. Police officers are organizing the parades in different areas and different districts and even near the headquarters to salute the police officers or the armed forces. The names of the police officers are written on the wall of valour.

  • Search for a location

When the letter was passed by the home secretary, they offered five locations for building the national police memorial in New Delhi. But they suggested building the memorial at the Motilal Nehru area because of the beautiful scenes and greenery. When the forest and environment department was not having the problem related to greenery and trees.

Then the forest and environmental department send this request to the ministry of urban development for permission. But they refused the proposal and said not to build the national police memorial museum in this area. Then the urban department allotted the land in the Chanakyapuri for building the memorial. The land was about 6.12 acres on the circular road and the 1.42 acres adjoining the round area for making the memorial.

  • Initial construction

The sculpture which is in the middle is having 4 pillars on the sides and has the 7m diameter globe on the top. The sculpture is 30 meters in height but it is raised to the height of 47.2 meters.
