The Nehru Planetarium is a wonderful place which is located in the Teen Murti House. This is made in remembrance of the first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. It is one of the historic places as this place is the residence of minister Nehru. The Jawaharlal Nehru planetarium is having information related to space and cosmology. It is designed in such a way that one can feel that he/she is in the stars. Various competitions related to art, science, and technology and sessions are held to make the planetarium a tourist place.

The museum of the Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru was inaugurated by prime minister Indira Gandhi in the year 1984. This planetarium was built to bring knowledge about science and astronomy because pandit Nehru was the proponent of this idea. This place is having state-of-the-art telescopes, solar filters, filters by which people can experience the space and see the space considerably. It is having the Soyuz T-10 capsule which took the Rakesh Sharma to space and the theatre room is made in the shape of sky theatre. Many visitors visit this place every year and most are foreigners.

History of Nehru planetarium:

The branches of Nehru planetarium are in five cities which are Delhi, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, and Prayagraj. The one which is established in Delhi was inaugurated by Indira Gandhi in the year 1984. In 1964, the funds were released for making this place. The planetarium is updated on the regular basis. in 2010, it was reopened again after the renovation.

1. Attend live shows and performances:

The planetarium is organizing various live performances and shows for a large number of people and even workshops for the tourist. Various programs are held to give information related to astronomy. The shows are very interesting and indulge the students and even the scientist from various parts of the world. Various competitions and quizzes are held in February and august in which anyone can participate.

2. Visit the sky theatre:

The sky theatre is built in a beautiful as you used to see the sky and it is in the dome shape. It is one of the best attractions in the Nehru planetarium as it is also providing the tourist or the visitor’s knowledge about astronomy. They can even see the shows like “Astronaut”, “new solar system” and many more by seating comfortably. The narration of these shows is done in many languages so that the visitors can easily understand the shows.

3. Exhibition hall:

The exhibition hall in the planetarium is having a vast collection of paintings, celestial bodies, and outer space.

4. Definiti optical star projector:

It is the place which is made after the renovation in the year 2010. The projector is used to tell the visitors about the solar system, constellations, asteroids, and many more. It also helps the visitors to look at the night sky in a closer way.

Different facilities available at Nehru planetarium:

  • The planetarium is having halls and theatres which are air-conditioned.
  • The washrooms are made at an adequate distance and even have different washrooms for a physically challenged person.
  • Clean drinking water is also available.
  • Many food stalls and canteens are also available.

Things to remember while visiting Nehru planetarium:

  • The visitors have to go through the temperature check.
  • The tourist has to purchase the tickets for the children who are more than 4 years.
  • They are not allowed to take the food in any halls or theatre.
  • Videography and photography are not allowed.
  • If anyone wants to visit the planetarium can visit on weekdays other than weekends to avoid the crowd.

Show timings and tickets:

The visitors can visit the planetarium from Tuesday to Saturday. It is closed on Monday.
The Jawaharlal Nehru planetarium timings are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Nehru planetarium entry fee is Rs. 50 for the adults and Rs. 30 for the children. The school student’s entry fee is Rs. 20 per student.
The Jawaharlal Nehru show timings are as follows:

  • Hindi shows: 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • English shows: 11:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.

How to visit the Nehru planetarium?

The visitor can visit this place by traveling through bus numbers 604, 615, 680, 720. They can travel through the metro and get off at the Udyog Bhawan which is 2km away.
