History of the Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

The history of this Gurudwara- It dates back to the seventeenth century when it was the palace of Raja Jai Singh. It is said that in the year 1664, Guru Har Krishan Sahib Ji, the eighth Sikh Guru, visited the King and cured people who contracted the epidemic of smallpox and cholera by distributing water from the tank. That water tank, used by the Guru, still exists today within the Gurudwara and is believed to possess medicinal properties.

Undoubtedly, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib Delhi, the most eminent Sikh pilgrimage site in Delhi, is one of the most important parts of the city for a long time. Originally the place was touted as the Jai Singh Pura Palace.

If we go back to the history of this place, the Gurudwara was also the place of residence of the eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan, during his stay in Delhi in 1664. During that period, Guru Har Krishan dedicated his time to a large number of people who suffered from smallpox and cholera epidemics.

He used to help them and gave them fresh water from the well built in their house. However, soon he also suffered the disease and, as a result, died on March 30, 1664. From the well, Raja Jai Singh built a tank that is now said to have medicinal properties.

Little Sarovar in this Gurudwara in Delhi has a huge religious reverence for the pilgrims, especially the Sikhs. It is said that a sacred bath in the water of this Sarovar can wash away all the sins of an individual. Similarly, it is believed that a dive can also eliminate all problems related to the skin.
