Tulsi Manas temple is temple of paramount importance in Varanasi. It is located close to Durga temple in Varanasi. It is made in 1964 and has white marble and beautiful garden. It has a sacred place which is dedicated to Lord Ram. It is also known as Tulsi Birla Manas Mandir. It is dedicated Lord Rama and made by family of Banaras. It was Ram Charitamanasa which bestowed as a diety. The Shikara -style temple is decorated with verses and scenes from Ramayana and makes this place a religious temple. Significance
Varanasi Tulsi manas mandir has great historical and cultural importance. Tulsi Das had written ancient hindu epic Ramcharitmanasa. Ramayana which is important epic in Hinduism was written in Sanskrit.It was built by Seth Ratan Lal Sureka. It was inaugurated by Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. History
There were many poets and scholars that were born in ghats of Varanasi. Tulsi das translated the epic to Hindi thereby more people could read it. The translation was a way of breaking the barrier. He composed Ram Charitramanasa in Tulsi manas temple. He gained tremendous acclaim and popularity. After this the mythical figure of Ram and is adventures came known to people.
The elites of the society were not happy with Tulsi Das and condemned Ramcharatamanasa. The upper-class people just did not read this book and decided to ban the book. To belittle the book the Brahmins ordered to test the sanctity of the book. The book was kept under the piles of Sanskrit scriptures. The book was kept in inner sanctum of Kashi Vishwanath temple and main doors were closed from outside. The interesting part is that in the morning the manuscript was in top of Sanskrit Scriptures with Satyam Shivam Sundaram.
Architecture
The two-floor complex is located nearby to Durga Kund. In the main gate it is written Shri Tulsi Das mandir Haridwar. Right side it there is a beautiful Tulsi Garden which is calm and peaceful. The construction was done in 1964.The construction of temple was made in white marble. Pictorial and verses were placed all over the marvel walls. On left side there is a pond which has four Ghats. There are statues installed in each bank with different subjects.
On the Eastern ghats there is Lord Shiva which relates to Ramayana and Mata Parvati and on western bank Tulsidas Ji is shown writing Ramayana. In the mandir area there is a hall with three temples. In middle there is Lord Shiva.There is Lord Ganesha and goddess durga idols also.The marble wall of the temples is inscribed with Chaupayees, Dohas, Chandas and Sorathas.
