Teen Murti Bhavan gets its name from three states, namely; Hyderabad, Jodhpur, and Mysore. Robert Tor Russel designed Teen Murti Bhavan. Initially, it was famous as Flagstaff House and used as the residence of Commander-in-chief by British forces. It took around one year to get completed the Nehru Memorial which resembles the British and French architecture.

In 1947, after Independence, Teen Murti Bhavan was taken as the residence of the 1st Prime minister of India, Jawaharlal Nehru. He stayed in Nehru Memorial hall for 16 years. When Nehru passed away, in 1964, Bhavan was turned into Nehru Memorial Museum and Library.
